The “Dandy Wolf” novelty alarm clock is the Japanese version of Rhythm’s popular “Saxy Wolf” Speak-Up alarm clock released in 1995, although I believe that the Japanese version may have been released earlier. It has a very similar appearance, other than the addition of the “Dandy Wolf'” text on the dial (rather than the Rhythm logo on the American version). Along with this, the alarm sound is completely different from the American version…it features a completely different instrumental and lyrics. I attempted to translate his speech, and this is what I got: “Hey, you! You're dressed just like you came home from last night, aren't you?! It's okay, it's okay, just go. It's okay! I'll forgive you!” I believe that it’s implying that you came home late from a party or the club, but I’m not completely sure…but anyway, it’s a really fun and hard-to-find Rhythm alarm clock!
Notes: I love this thing...the song is so catchy! It's very different from the American version. There are a few minor imperfections and some minor discoloration due to age, but it still works and sounds great. The saxophone isn't connected to the wolf's chest anymore, but it is secure in its mouth; this is a very common issue with both the Japanese and American versions of this clock. The second hands on Rhythm's vintage Speak-Up alarm clocks are very fragile, and they very commonly come off during shipping. Out of all of these alarm clocks in my personal collection, over half of the second hands have come off at some point during transport...this is no joke, unfortunately. Please understand that although I have secured it, this still may happen, even with all of the bubble wrap and protective packaging that I use. Thank you very much!
